“Probably Miller’s best thriller yet.”

A woman’s scream. A muzzle flash. The crack of a gun.

Sasha McCandless knows she’s just witnessed a murder on a nearby fishing boat. But when she reports the crime to the captain of the luxury cruise ship she’s sailing on, he dismisses her as a hysterical woman.

And just like that, Sasha and Leo’s adults-only, romantic cruise turns from rest and relaxation to an unauthorized investigation into a crime committed in the Gulf of Thailand, outside the jurisdiction of organized law enforcement.

Sasha and Leo will take matters into their own hands to bring down a violent maritime crime ring, but ripples from the incident will follow them home like waves on the ocean.

International Incident Sasha McCandless Legal Thriller Book 9 edition by Melissa F Miller Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Sasha's law firm had booked a cruise for Sasha and Connelly on The Water Lilly -- a vacation surprise because the firm had a phenomenal year. Sasha suspects that Naya had something to do with the trip. It was an "adults only" cruise. She arranged for Sasha's parents to take care of Finn and Fiona, cleared Sasha's calendar for her, and she is watching Mocha and Java. All they had to do was relax and enjoy the trip...

When they board the ship, they are told that "Sacred Lotus differentiates itself from other competitors by offering a truly pampering, luxury experience" and "we believe the ability to remove yourself from daily life is priceless, worth far more than constant contact is" -- there is no WI-Fi for Internet access because they want the guests to have a good time and not be on computers or telephones checking emails. The tour is eight days and seven nights -- and Sasha and Connelly already miss the babies. After ascertaining that they can make phone calls to home when the boat docks at one of several exotic Asian locations, they feel better. Besides, if it was a real emergency, Sasha knows nothing can keep Connelly's "bat phone" from working...

In Tumpat, Malaysia, a young girl has cut her hair short and borrowed the neighbor's clothes from the outside line. Her name is Mina. Her sisters are hungry and her father is dying (her mother is dead) -- she needs to get a job on one of the fishing trawlers. There is only one chance, she has to fool the men into thinking she is a young boy. She is selected to work on one of the boats, now she has to keep anyone from knowing she is a girl (fishing boats have no females on board) -- or face the consequences...

In international waters, Sasha is up for an early run because she cannot sleep. When she stops to stretch, she hears a woman screaming and guns shooting. She knows it is not on the ship she is on because the sound was from too far away. She sees something that she should have never seen. She hears the woman's screams as she goes over the rail of the fishing boat and she sees the muzzle flashes -- she has just witnessed something...

When she demands to be taken to the ship's captain, she tells him what she saw, but he refuses to believe her. He has a schedule he must keep and no time for a "hysterical woman." When she tells Connelly what she saw and the captain's refusal to believe her, he tells her to take a shower and he will speak to the captain. He gets the same reaction from the captain. After a brief discussion, they decide it is time to call Hank...

This book was a new take for Sasha McCandless-Connelly and Leo Connelly. It is not the usual legal thriller, but an "action on the high seas" thriller. It was nice to see how well Sasha and Connelly work together -- even when they were apart...

Even on holiday, Sasha and Connelly are soon involved in a high-seas thriller that keeps your heart pounding! I got so caught up in the details that I could not stop until I finished the book. I got caught up in the action, suspense and thrills. What a great book!

International Incident Sasha McCandless Legal Thriller Book 9 edition by Melissa F Miller Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

International Incident was another excellent book in the Sasha McCandless-Connelly series. Once again, Ms. Miller’s plots cover what is currently in the news and she manages to deliver a message on how law can influence, for the good, the problems of humanity.

Also, I love the interaction between Sasha and Leo, their family, coworkers and friends.

Read the book, it will be well worth the time!
I enjoyed every page of this book. In typical fashion Melissa F Miller balances plot, character development, action and humor perfectly.

In International Incident, Sasha and Leo go on a cruise, but there's more action and suspense than you would imagine and it all ties up in a satisfying ending. There are injustices to be righted, killers at large and both Leo and Sasha face some daunting challenges. If you like legal thrillers, or just thrillers in general, this book is definitely for you.
Sasha and Connelly have been sent off on a cruise of south Asia on a luxury ship and one morning Sasha appears to see a murder of a young girl on a fishing boat near the cruise ship. When she reports it to the captain, she seems to get the brush off. Not content she pursues the matter with Connelly and the US embassy officer in Thailand. Despite warnings they continue to ask questions and investigate which brings them to the attention of a huge shady company that runs the fishing boats and much more. There is an attempt to grab Sasha off the ship and Connelly gets in a bind as he investigates on his own. Action, suspense and a good ending back in Pittsburgh as Sasha turns to the courts to shut down a drug smuggler.
I loved this book. It's my favorite so far.
Ms. Miller has created a timeless character in Sasha. But what I like the most is shining a light on the cruise industry, the international drug trade, and slavery of impoverished people all over the world. A childhood friend lost her only daughter on a cruise. Drugs were involved through the daughter's boyfriend and his friends. The daughter had gotten out a message about something she witnessed before her untimely death. Because of the immunity granted cruise ships in international waters, this crime was never investigated. The crime scene was not preserved and my friend did not even get an apology from the cruise line for the loss of her daughter. Covering this sort of unconscionable crime in a rip roaring work of fiction is a good start toward awareness and changes in cruise line international immunity laws.
Melissa F Miller has another great addition to the Sasha McCandless legal thriller series. In this book, Sasha's colleagues have sent Sasha and Leo on a posh cruise through Southeast Asia to relax and restore themselves. Unfortunately Sasha and Leo don't get much rest, it seems-ever. As usual, the author keeps the action going, suspense building, and the crisis topic important to bring to public attention without getting preachy about it. She manages to portray Sasha and Leo's relationship as steamy and deeply close without intruding on their privacy, coloring a scene with danger and death without getting gruesome, and bad guys and good guys alike are realistically earthy without offending those readers who are strongly opposed to offensive language. I have found a few typos in most of her books, but the typos are few and subtle such as a missing article or the wrong tense. Above all, I find Ms Miller's writing hard to put down at the end of the evening and more enjoyable than her better known colleagues books. Each book in the series stand alone and end without cliffhangers, but for character development and back-story of secondary characters, the books in the series are best read in order.
